I have recently been studying up on affirmations due to hearing about it first on Lea Ellen DiNonno’s YouTube channel (Little House on the Mountain) a few months ago. If you google the definition of affirmation you get several different definitions, but I like the “definition of affirmation in the Bible” answer— which is: “To assert positively; to tell with confidence; to aver; to declare the existence of something; to maintain as true; opposed to deny.”
My favorite affirmations in scripture were the beginning of our Christmas celebrations.
Here are the affirmations from the KJV Bible out of the book of Luke and Isaiah.
- From “an angel of the Lord” – “…Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.” (Luke 1: 13)
- From “an angel of the Lord” – “And he (John) shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” (Luke 1:17)
- From Gabriel to Mary – “…Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.” (Luke 1:28)
- From Gabriel – “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)
- From Mary – “…Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to they word…” (Luke 1:38)
- From Elisabeth to Mary – “…Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.” (Luke 1:42)
- From Elisabeth to Mary – “And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.” (Luke 1:45)
- From Mary to Elisabeth – “For He that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is His name. And His mercy is on them that fear Him from generation to generation.” (Luke 1:49-50)
- From the book of Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” (Immanuel = “God with us.”)
And it came to pass…
“And she brought forth her first born son and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.” Luke 2:7
When I watched Lea on her channel talk about her Biblical Affirmation Journal and show how she used it, I ordered one. I started using mine October 7th this year. It has changed so much of how I see myself as I affirm God’s Word over my life and write out my prayers based on the affirmation for that day.
I loved the journal so much that I have been giving them as Christmas gifts this year. I love using colorful, erasable, gel ink pens from Amazon to highlight the main points of the affirmation and then write my prayers.
Below are examples of some of the affirmations.
How to use the journal.
Since I had never used this type of journal before, I started out timidly, but my prayers got bolder with time as I wanted to affirm Luke 1: 37 “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
If I were on the one about “God’s Word is medicine to my whole body,” (See example above.) I would underline that sentence and the last sentence. Then my written prayer would go something like this:
Date (Always date it so you can look back at answered prayers.)
Dear Lord,
Thank you that Your Word is like medicine to me. Help me receive Your Truth as medicine to my bones. Strengthen all my bones, even as I age, that I may carry out your mission in my life. Help me work hard on Your temple and having good health so that I can fulfill the plans You have for me. Help me to know the foods I should eat, and the exercises that I should do to strengthen me…. etcetera.
You can find Lea’s Biblical Affirmation Journal on Amazon, but if you are my friend and have not received your Christmas present from me yet, wait. 😉
I hope as you celebrate the amazing miracle and gift of Jesus’ birth this week you can see the affirming power of God’s Words to us…. and…. I wish you….
