I received so much good feedback on how to find your place to serve at church. I felt it might benefit others to hear the wisdom that was shared with me. So I’m going to share a compilation of the feedback that I received regarding finding a place to serve in church. They are in the order as they were received.

  1. Don’t feel pressured by sermons that stress serving or the huge needs that are usually in the childcare area. Take your time to pray and listen to God for where He wants to direct you. You don’t have to rush. (A quote I read in a Robin Jones Gunn book will be great inserted here: “The need is not the call.”) — Thank you, Allison
  2. It takes time. Wait, pray, watch. Join into the small opportunities in front of you and respond with a content, eager attitude. “The small encounters can be seeds to future fruits.” — Thank you, Elaine
  3. Ask yourself — what comes to mind “when you think about what you would like to do to serve?” If nothing comes to mind that is not a bad thing. “It means when the Lord tells you what that thing is, you’ll know because you don’t have your own thoughts about it.” — Thank you, Preston
  4. Start with where you are comfortable. If teaching is your gift be consistent in classes and offer to teach when the teacher is out. Fulfill any requirements related to your area of service. Trust God to be fruitful to place you in teaching and leadership rolls as they come available. —Thank you, Tim
  5. Pray that God gives you clear guidance on the ability and where to serve Him at. — Thank you, Joni

I paraphrased the clear messages that I took from each of your messages, and sometimes I quoted directly. Thank you all for your prayers and support. I loved all the feedback and now feel freedom to watch, wait, and maybe start out small at first. It is also reassuring to know that I don’t have to have a thought of where I would like to serve, because that opens the door for the Lord to surprise me with a place to serve that I would never have thought of.

“Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.” Proverbs 15:22 KJV

“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” Proverbs 11:14 KJV

I thank you all for the wise counsel!

Praying for everyone to have a great week!
