I love rock walls like this one. None of the rocks are the same size, but with strategic placement, they begin to fit together. That is what a life time of learning is like. The absorption of a large load of information, balanced out by pulling it all together with nuggets of smaller details tucked in between. Once you put it all together, you have a fortress of knowledge.

Today, I would like to share a youtube channel, blogging site, and podcast resource that I have learned to love. You can find blogposts and recipes at https://www.farmhouseonboone.com/.

I have learned from Lisa to make my own sourdough starter and now make sourdough bread on a weekly basis. I have made sourdough pancakes and english muffins from recipes on the site above. You can also go to this site for free ebooks of recipes.

On Lisa’s youtube channel, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n-s_v4hsFE, you can find helpful tips on cooking, gardening, restoration of an 1860s farmhouse, sewing projects, childcare, and farmhouse decorating.

But, the information I found to be the most fascinating from Lisa, recently, is her podcast where she answers questions regarding pregnancy and childbirth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGW5nTckG4E. As a retired Labor and Delivery nurse, Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse, and a Lamaze Instructor, I found her childbirth choices fascinating and wise.

One of the smartest things Lisa has done is to admit her mistakes from her first birth and change the course she has taken for the rest of her births.

Lisa gives herself the option of changing her mind if something is not working or she finds a better solution. The podcast is not only an education in pregnancy support, childbirth, and childcare, but is, also, an example of how to teach yourself about a subject, build on your knowledge, add more information, and learn to make the wisest choice in each situation.

You will find out how to deal with others who may not think your choices are wise, yet stick to your beliefs. Lisa encourages you to do your own research, not listen to one person, but combine knowledge from many people. She encourages everyone to be their own advocate.

Lisa learned the Bradley method for making childbirth easier and because it is still working, she doesn’t change that up. The lesson from that is, when you find something that works, don’t change it.

The last lesson I want to point out from the podcast is that the first trimester of sickness ends, labor ends, but it also becomes the hardest (transition) right before it ends. It seems that projects and situations in life always becomes the hardest, right before they end.

Learn from Lisa and build your wall of knowledge by laying a foundation of rocks based on learning from mistakes, giving yourself permission to change your mind and work on a better solution, stick to your core beliefs, do your own research, combine the knowledge of many people, advocate for yourself, when you find something that works don’t change it, and don’t give up. Push yourself over the finish line.

What fortress of knowledge are you building, today?
