Turn on your TV, or any news source, and you will hear nothing but anxiety provoking, depressing, commentary.
I think I should be informed about what is happening in the world, so I try to catch up on the news on YouTube during breakfast. Nowadays, it doesn’t make for enjoyment of, or good digestion of, any meal. Especially, with all the fall elections coming.
Even as I watch, I think… why am I causing myself anxiety by watching this stuff. I have no control over any of it. (Note: I do vote) God is in control and He will take care of all of it. It is His job, not mine. I need to stay in my lane. I need to let God set the pace for my day. I have a small area of influence. I need to concentrate on that.
Thankfully on Friday, Dr. Lee Warren had a video on YouTube that I let take the place of the news. It was very encouraging so I wanted to share it with you, so that you can find some peace for today.
Dr. Lee Warren’s post is titled, “Your Fear of Tomorrow Ends Today.”
Some of the points that he makes are:
- God knows the end from the beginning. Nothing is a surprise to God. (Isaiah 46)
- God keeps His promises. He redeems our lives. We have a future in Him. God is not afraid of your future. He hasn’t abandoned you in it.
- Acts 17:26 Tells us that God made all the nations from one man and “marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.” God placed us where we live and has a plan for us in that area.
- God isn’t abandoning us to the uncaring randomness of the universe.
- He has the power to handle the universe.
- He designed your brain to come under the influence of your mind so that you can make it operate as it should.
- We need to change our focus.
- We need to build a theology that allows us to look into the future knowing that God will be beside us to help us get through this life.
Dr. Warren explains Hebb’s law that says: “Neurons that fire together wire together.” Anytime you focus on anything whether good or bad, you strengthen those circuits.
Concentrating on your blessings and having gratitude helps you to get better at noticing them more. You become better at it as you fire up those neurons, instead of focusing on elections, wars, finances, grocery prices, job and family demands, and start looking for the amazing parts of your life. We all have those amazing parts if we look for them. Especially as we try to see what is important through the eyes of God’s Word.
We are to pray and take action according to God’s Word and surrender the outcome. The outcome might not look like what we think it should look like, but here is an important quote from the video…
“The outcome always does look like God already knew it was going to look like.”
You get less cortisol when you are able to surrender you outcomes. And you are able to release the burden of carrying the outcomes.
Dr. Charles Stanley’s famous principle that he quoted many times says: “Obey God and leave all the consequences to Him.”
I’m going to attach Dr. Lee Warren’s video below. It will give you so much courage to face tomorrow without fear and help you find your peace for today. It is around 17 minutes long, and you can even use it for your devotional time today, if you are having to do your “quiet time” on the run.
